THREE men who groomed and sexually abused "vulnerable and impressionable" teenage girls in the UK have been jailed.

Police in Manchester say the trio plied the two girls with alcohol and drugs at parties, often to the point where they were intoxicated, at which point they were raped by one or more of the men.
The abuse took place between 2008 and 2011, when the victims, now both 18, were aged between 14 and 16.
"This has been a long-running, difficult and complex enquiry, through which we have established these two young girls have been emotionally manipulated by a group of older men into believing the sexual abuse they were subjected to was 'normal' and acceptable behaviour," Detective Chief Inspector Pete Marsh, who led the investigation, said.
"On numerous occasions, the girls were deliberately plied with alcohol to the point they could barely stand, before being raped by the men when they were not in a fit state to be able to even try and stop them."
Shamin Uddin, 26, was jailed for 19 years after being found guilty of two counts of rape, two of attempted rape and one of sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 15.
Robert Jackson, 23, was jailed for 12 years after being found guilty of rape, and Giash Uddin, 27, was sentenced to six years' imprisonment, having been found guilty of sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 15.

Woman caught with dead day old baby in sack in Lagos

A 40-year old widow named Mujidat was caught yesterday Wednesday October 30th with a dead day old baby she hid inside a sack around her residence at at the Iba area of Lagos, PM News reports.
It was gathered that a member of the community, High Chief Babatunde Balogun caught the mother of seven when she was  trying to dispose the baby at about 5 p.m. on Wednesday. When questioned on the content of the sack, she claimed she was coming from the market where she bought some household items.
However, on a closer look, Balogun discovered that the sack contained a dead day old baby the woman allegedly had just delivered. He then called the attention of the other residents. Neighbours told P.M News that after Mujidat’s husband known as Baba Mushin died about three years ago, they have seen men visiting her residence, the house built by her late husband.
When asked if she planned to throw away the baby because of an alleged paternity mess, she denied, claiming  that a welder turned block maker near her residence was responsible for the pregnancy that resulted in the birth of the dead baby she was caught with.

She claimed she took delivery of the baby by herself because she found it easy and therefore did not go to any hospital or sought anybody’s  help.

At about 9 p.m yesterday when P.M.NEWS visited the area, residents of the area were still milling around the residence of the woman.

Officials of the Community Development Association, CDA, in the area later accompanied the woman and her sack of baby to the Isheri-Oshun Police Division where the matter was reported. At the time of this report, the woman was still being interrogated.

APC leaders, rebel govs’ meeting rattles PDP

Rebel governors
The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party was rattled by the meeting of the leadership of the All Progressive Congress and some of the aggrieved governors of the Peoples Democratic Party in Sokoto, Sokoto State on Tuesday.
The APC leaders, who were in Sokoto for the inauguration of the Sokoto State University , where the meeting was held, were a former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) and a former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
Members of the New PDP who were in attendance were the governor of the state, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko; Governors Rabiu Kwankwanso (Kano); Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers); and Sule Lamido (Jigawa).
Three of the aggrieved governors, Aliyu Babangida(Niger), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa) and Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara), were absent at the event.
However, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mallam Aminu Tambuwal, was at the event, where no Federal Government official was present.
Investigations by our correspondent showed that the meeting of the APC leaders with the rebel governors was a topic for discussion among members of the National Working Committee of the PDP on Wednesday.
A member of the committee, who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said it was almost certain that the rebel governors were out of the ruling party.
He said the NWC of the party was surprised that the rebel governors were no longer hiding their disdain for the party.
He said though the issue was not on the agenda of the Wednesday’s meeting, the matter was discussed informally among the NWC members.
The source said, “Though the gathering was about opening of a university, why was the event dominated by those who are against us?
“We have been hearing that these governors are planning to defect to the APC. Maybe that was why they invited the leaders of the party and used the opportunity to concretise their discussions. We are watching.”
Reacting to the issue, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Ibrahim Jalo, told our correspondent that the party believed that the gathering had no political undertone.
Jalo  said the party believed what Wamakko said, which was that the event was for the inauguration of the state university.
He said, “The event was a mere gathering. We also believe that it was, according to the governor, meant to open the state university as stated by the governor.
“Apart from that, we believe that these people are free to meet and discuss as guaranteed by the Constitution. The Constitution guarantees freedom of association.”
However, the party said it had directed party leaders in zones, states, local government areas and wards to establish disciplinary committees in accordance with its constitution.
A statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh, said the action was in tandem with the  “focused determination of the national leadership of the PDP to ensure discipline and loyalty at all levels.”

Forbes names Dangote Africa’s most powerful man

Alhaji Aliko Dangote
The President, Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has been named the most powerful man in Africa and 64th in the world by the Forbes magazine.
Dangote, who Forbes says is by far Africa’s richest man with a net worth of $16.1bn as of March 2013, was ranked ahead of the likes of Fifa President, Sepp Blatter (69); Speaker, United States House of Representatives, John Boehner (66); and Founder, Mo Ibrahim Foundation, Mohammed Ibrahim (71).
The 56-year-old, Dangote, whose company is considered one of the most diversified on the list, is currently ranked 43 on the Forbes list of the world’s billionaires with his net worth over time said to be on the rise.
In August, the industrialist had announced plans by the Dangote Group to build a $9bn refinery and petrochemical complex in Nigeria, a move which is expected to help the group further diversify its current business model and increase his net worth.
Away from his business interests, mention was also made of his philanthropic efforts in his profile on the Forbes website.
It reads in part, “Inspired by fellow billionaires, Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, Dangote is making a name for himself on the philanthropic circuit and has given away millions to education, health and social causes in Africa.”
Apart from Dangote, Ibrahim is the only other African on the list, which contains 72 people.
Russia’s President, Vladimir Putin, topped the list, displacing United States President, Barrack Obama, who dropped to the second spot for the first time in three years.
Chinese President, Xi Jinping, occupies the third spot, while the head of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis, debuts on the list at number four.
Pope Francis, who was elected in March this year, leads 12 other new entrants.
Other notable new names on the list are Samsung Chairman, Lee Kun-Hee (41); Volkswagen’s Martin Winterkorn (49); South Korean President, Park Geun-hye (52); and Janet Yellen (72), who has been nominated by President Obama as the next leader of the US Federal Reserves.
The Executive Editor of the New York Times, Jill Abramson (68), makes a return appearance after dropping off the list in years past.
Facebook Founder, Mark Zuckerberg, aged 29, and North Korean leader, Kim Jung-un, aged 30, are the youngest people on the list. Zuckerberg occupies the 24th place, while Kim is ranked 46th.
Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah, who occupies the eight spot, is the oldest person on the list. He is 89 years old.
The world’s richest man, Carlos Slim, is, however, not the most powerful man. The América Móvil honorary chairman occupies the 12th position.
According to Forbes, the Most Powerful People in the World list is an annual snapshot of the heads of state, financiers, philanthropists and entrepreneurs, who truly rule the world.
“It represents the collective wisdom of top Forbes editors, who consider hundreds of nominees before ranking the planet’s top 72 power-brokers – one for every 100 million people on earth – based on their scope of influence and their financial resources relative to their peers,” the magazine explained.
This year’s list features 17 heads of state, who run nations with a combined Gross Domestic Product of some $48tn.

Jonathan moves against Oduah, as another minister is made to sign BASA

The Bilateral Air Services Agreement is supposed to be signed by Nigeria's Minister of Aviation but when it happened a few days ago in Israel, it wasn't Stella Oduah that signed it. In a move to show that he is serious about probing Ms Oduah over the N225m bulletproof cars bought for her by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, President Jonathan asked the Minister of State I, Foreign Affairs, Prof. Viola Onwuliri, to sign the agreement on behalf of the Federal Government. (Pictured above).

Thing is, BASA has nothing to do with the Foreign Affairs Ministry. The other thing is, Stella Oduah was present at the signing...but she sat with other Nigerian delegates as an observer.

While explaining why she joined Pres. Jonathan's delegation to Israel last week, her special adviser on media, Mr. Joe Obi, said it was to sign the BASA. President Jonathan decided at the last minute to keep her from signing on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria. See a pic of Stella Oduah at the BASA signing after the cut...

Syrian Civil War Story so far

The current war in Syria began on March 15, 2011 and has caused the death of approximately 100,000 people—about half of whom are citizens.
The people of Syria have called for the resignation of President Bashar al-Assad, whose family has held the presidency in Syria since 1971. They have created the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces. The coalition was recognized as the legitimate government of Syria by the Arab League in 2013 and has been supported by the European Union and the United States, who have enforced a large amount of sanctions against Syria since the war started. In January of 2013, the UN released a report that detailed crimes against humanity committed by the Syrian government, including the use of chemical weapons against the rebels.
In 2013, the Syrian government released a statement indicating that all Western reporters would be targeted in the war. In February, award-winning American journalist Marie Colvin was killed at the siege of Homs in Syria. By March of 2013 it was estimated that around 150 journalists had been killed in the Syrian Civil War. In May of 2013, U.S. and Russian officials jointly called for an international peace conference to discuss a plan for ending the war. In June of 2013, the UN submitted the largest aid appeal in history to help Syria, reported at $5 billion.

2) The Great Wall Of China is the only man made object you can see from space

Even from low Earth orbit the wall is extremely hard to spot and there are other monuments that are much easier to see. This myth is hundreds of years old, however, so it’s not hard to understand why people would have thought something like this.

Eaglets beat Iran, set up Uruguay clash

•Nigeria's Musa Muhammed (left) with Iran's Ali Hazami during their FIFA U-17 World Cup match in Al Ain City, United Arab Emirates ...on Tuesday. Nigeria won 4-1.
The Golden Eaglets on Tuesday advanced to the quarterfinals of the FIFA U-17 World Cup after they trashed Iran 4-1 at the Khalifa Bin Zayed Stadium, Al Ain City, United Arab Emirates.
Nigeria will engage Uruguay, who defeated Slovakia 4-2  in another Round of 16 fixture in Ras Al-Khaimah  earlier in the day,  in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
The Eaglets  began on a lively mood and Kelechi Iheanacho and Chidiebere Nwakali should have scored in the early minutes.
Iran got into the game gradually but it was the Eaglets who got the lead in the 23rd minute when left-back Samuel Okon tapped in a low ball from Musa Yahaya past the outstretched hands of  Iran goalkeeper Mahdi Amini  to send the Nigerian supporters into rapturous celebrations.
Just two minutes later, Iheanacho got his fifth goal of the tournament. The impressive forward started the move off a counter-attack in the Nigerian half, sending a long ball to Taiwo Awoniyi, who controlled before passing to the onrushing Iheanacho to finish beautifully from the edge of the box.
The striker is now joint-second on the tournament top scorer’s list with Slovakian Tomas Vestenicky. Brazilian Boschilia tops the list with six goals.
However, there was apprehension on the Nigerian bench as Iheanacho was carried off the pitch after pulling a hamstring. He joins fellow striker Success Isaac on the injury list.
The Eaglets should have been three goals up in the 31st minute but for an amazing double saves from Amini. However, Musa Mohammed punished the Iranians three minutes before the break.
The Nigerian captain pounced on a poor clearance by an Iranian defender, controlled, before unleashing a rasping drive into the net.
Nigeria increased the pressure in the second period but Iran managed to hang on without conceding further goals until the 76th minute when some bit of individual brilliance from Musa Yahaya made score 4-0 for the Eaglets.
The hardworking midfielder beat a defender 25 yards out and let loose a shot that had a slight deflection before flying past Amini for his tournament’s fourth goal.
The depressed look on Amini’s face told the story: it was the end of the road for the Iranians while three-time champions Nigeria set up a quarterfinal clash with Uruguay in Sharjah on Saturday.
And even though Ali Gholizadeh got a consolation for the Arabs six minutes from time, it was too little too late

Boy, 14, rapes nine-year-old girl to death

Rapist
The police in Lagos State have commenced investigation into how a nine-year-old girl died, after sustaining injuries caused by alleged consistent rape.
According to police authorities, the deceased was raped over five times, by a 14-year-old student, Onyi Adimabua, in the Ikorodu area of the state.
The father of the deceased, Simeon Jigo, told PUNCH Metro that Onyi is the son of the proprietor of the school his daughter attended.
He said his daughter opened up about the rape when she started having medical problems.
The 77-year-old man said his daughter died on October 3, 2013.
He said, “Up until my daughter’s death, she was a pupil of Fulfilled Greenland School, Ikorodu, and she was in primary three. One day, she came home and started complaining of pains around her vagina, stomach area. We rushed her to Ikorodu General Hospital.
“A doctor checked her and after conducting some tests on her, told us that my daughter had sustained medical complications due to forced sexual intercourse. I was alarmed by this; so, I had a private discussion with my daughter.
“She told me that it was her school proprietor’s son, Onyi, that had been raping her. The boy had threatened to kill her if she ever told anyone about it.”
The indigene of Ondo State told PUNCH Metro that after initial treatments, he took his daughter to Arogbo in Ondo State to be taken care of but her condition continued to deteriorate.
A few days after the troubled father travelled to Ondo State, Onyi, accompanied by his parents, also travelled to Ondo State, to apologise to Jigo’s family. The girl, however, was said to have died that very day.
“On getting to the house where my daughter was, we discovered that she was dead. Onyi confessed that he had been raping my daughter prior to her death,’ Jigo said.
PUNCH Metro learnt that after the girl’s demise, irate youths in the area attempted to lynch the 14-year-old boy.
The bereaved father was said to have intervened and reported the matter to a nearby police station, where the teenager was held for safe keeping. The next morning, Onyi and his parents travelled back to Lagos.
The alleged rapist’s parents, in company with a chief in Ikorodu, reportedly visited Jigo when he returned to Lagos. The group were said to have pleaded that the bereaved father should not pursue the case but he refused.
Jigo said, “I went to the Ikorodu Police station to report the case but was surprised when the policemen on duty said I should not write any statement.  They only told me to write down my telephone number and said they would call me later.
“After waiting for many days without any call, I wrote a petition and the matter was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba.”
It was however learnt that Onyi had been taken to his father’s hometown in Delta State thereby stalling police investigation.
The teenager’s parents,  however described the incident as the handiwork of the devil.
The 14-year-old boy’s father, Andrew Adimabua, said, “I trained that boy in the way of the Lord and expected so much from him. He has confessed to the act; there is nothing to hide. He told me that he learnt about sex by watching blue (pornographic) films.
“We are not hiding him and we will cooperate with the police. On the day the little girl died, he was beaten up and made to stay in the rain for hours. As a result, he contracted pneumonia so we sent him home for treatment. When he recovers, he’ll be taken to the police for questioning.”
Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, who confirmed the incident to our correspondent on the telephone, expressed shock at the development.
Braide said Onyi would be re-arrested in the course of investigation.
“It is appalling that a teenager could indulge in such act. The matter is under investigation and the culprit will be re-arrested.”

Sign of end time? Mysterious figures at Chelsea stadium

A bit of news from the world of football...:-). 11 strange men in black robes (can you spot them in the pic above?) caused a stir at Chelsea's Stamford Bridge yesterday Sunday October 27th during the Chelsea vs Manchester City clash.
Goal.com reports that the hooded men, who had mysterious circles on their chest, were seen making curious synchronised movements at irregular intervals during Chelsea's 2-1 win, while they also stood in unison at random moments.
Situated three rows back from the corner flag at the Shed End, the gang could be clearly seen on TV cameras beaming pictures of the crunch fixture all across the world.
One Chelsea fan sat close to the mysterious guests was Robin Taylor, who said afterwards that he was slightly perturbed by their presence.

"We're used to a few different characters down at Chelsea, there was once even a guy brushing his teeth behind the bench at a game, but we've had nothing quite like this before," he said.

Osun: Muslims warn CAN against opposition to hijab

Osun: Muslims warn CAN against opposition to hijab

Chairman of the Movement Against Corruption and Chief Missioner of Ansar Ud Deen, Imam Abdur-Rahman
The Ansar-ud-deen Society of Nigeria has warned members of Christians Association of Nigeria in Osun State against preventing hijab-wearing pupils from any public school in the state.
The National Publicity Secretary of the group, Alhaji Muibi Adebanjo, gave the warning in a statement in Osogbo on Monday.
The warning came just as the President, Muslim Community in Osun State, Sheikh Salahudeen Olayiwola,  also announced the Muslims’  support for the new education policy of Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
He spoke on Monday at a press conference which was part of activities to herald  Hijra 1435.
Olayiwola described the new education policy as a step in the right direction, saying the policy would soon put Osun State in position of leadership in the education sector.
He said that the group had nothing against CAN opinion but said that they should not infringe on the rights of Muslim students who had chosen to wear hijab.
The statement read, “The Ansar-ud-deen Society of Nigeria has been following with keen interest the recent changes in the education policy of the Osun State Government and the comments of the Christian Association of Nigeria on the merger of schools.
“Whilst we are not against CAN for airing their views on  the implementation of the state government policy on the merger of schools, we detest its act of religious intolerance by protesting against Muslim children wearing hijab to their newly allocated schools in accordance to their faith.
“We want to remind the CAN that the issue of hijab wearing is the fundamental rights of any Muslim child that cannot be tampered with and should not be mixed up with the government policy on education. The action of CAN is capable of igniting religious crisis in the state that is presently enjoying peaceful coexistence amongst adherents of all religions.”
Adebanjo said that the nation was already battling insecurity problem saying religious crisis should not be added to the problems militating against the country’s development.
It will be recalled that members of CAN had staged a protest against the merging of hijab wearing pupils with pupils in Christian schools in the state.
Meanwhile, the Old Students’ Association of Ife-Oluwa Grammar School, Osogbo has declared support for the schools reclassification of the state government.
The National President of IOGS Old Students’ Association, Mr. Soji Ajibade who spoke  at a dinner to mark the 50 anniversary of the school said that the reclassification of school by Aregbesola’s government was a right step in right direction.

We’ll stop Iheanacho, Yahaya –Iran

Kelechi Iheanacho
Iran insist  they have tactical plans to nullify the threat of  Nigeria’s attacking duo  of Kelechi Iheanacho  and Musa Yahaya in Tuesday’s FIFA Under-17 World Cup Round of 16   clash in Al Ain City, United Arab Emirates.
Nigeria have scored 14 goals in the tournament with Iheanacho scoring four and Yahaya on the scoresheet thrice. Injured Isaac Success and Chidiebere Nwakali   have scored two goals each while Taiwo Awoniyi,  Musa Muhammed  and Chigozi Obasi have a goal each to their names.
Iran coach Ali Doustimehr and captain Majed Hosseini say they are aware of the threat posed by the Nigeria strikers to their  hopes of reaching the quarterfinals of UAE 2013. But they maintain that they are ready for the challenge.
“We know about their attack. We know that they only need one second to hurt you, to score a goal from nothing. We know all of this. But we have our strengths too,” Hosseini  was quoted  by FIFA.com  as saying on Monday.
“We will do everything we can to make sure we don’t let the opponents in. It will be the hardest game so far for us; we have no illusions about it. Nigeria are a very strong team.”
The Saipa Alborz defender feels the Asian champions must play to their strengths to seal their place in the last eight.
He said the team would rely on working together as a unit against the Eaglets, adding that the players were raring to go.
Hosseini said, “Everybody in the team acts as a defender and when we do go forward we go forward as one. This is one of the secrets of our success.
“Our defenders, all of us, are close friends and we support each other. When we get in trouble there’s always someone to help out.
“Our goal is the last four. We outlined this before the tournament started and we can still do it. We’ve felt positive energy coming from home. We want to make the Iranian people happy and we’ll give everything we have against Nigeria to do it.”
Doustimehr said his team would do everything to beat Nigeria, who have won the title thrice.
“Ever since I can remember, Nigeria has been one of the FIFA U-17 World Cup favourites. Nigeria and Brazil are the most powerful teams,” Tehran Times quoted  the 48-year-old as saying.
“It is really difficult playing against Nigeria but we want to go ahead, that’s why we are here. I promise to do our best against the team.”
But Eaglets coach Manu Garba dismissed the Iranians, saying his team would win the encounter.
“We are not talking about  winning the trophy now, rather  we are talking about Iran and by the grace of Allah we shall win.”
Iheanacho and Yahaya promised that Nigeria would qualify for the next round of the tournament.
Iheanacho  said. “The most important thing for us is to win all our matches.”

Nigerian man jailed in the UK for raping a woman in her own home

A Nigerian night club bouncer has been jailed for seven years in the UK for raping a woman in her own home. Idreez Popoola (pictured above), who twice dodged deportation, brutally attacked his victim on 29th December 2012, eleven months after he successful appealed his deportation ruling.

Prosecutors said Popoola met his victim while working as an agency-employed bouncer outside Bar So in Northampton town centre. He took her out for drinks then managed to convince the woman to take him back to her home. It was in her home that he attacked her.

Popoola, 34, was jailed for seven years at a court in Northampton on October 18. He was also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life. The court told him he would be automatically deported back to Nigeria on his release from prison.
